HAPPY 2-YR LOCK-A-VERSARY TO ME.....

Hey Everybody. Don't have much to say just that I celebrated 2 years locked on April 1st. I am sooooo glad I stuck it out & didn't take 'em out like I threatened to do in the past. It's so low maintenance. My regimen consists of spritzing with water, rubbing oil and/or  shea butter on 'em every few days or so. That's it!!

My Baby's 1st Re-ti

Well, the time has come. It has been a little over a month since I installed my baby's braidlocs. Yes, I said it...BRAIDLOCS. I know in the initial post I stated that I hadn't made an affirmative decision about whether I was going to allow her to loc this time <SEE HERE!!!>. It's official now, even though I've been referring to them as braidlocs since day uno. Surprisingly, it only took 3 hours, off & on, to complete. That's fantastic. She didn't cry or squirm all over the place because I was combing or brushing too hard. She sat there as if I were doing nothing to her hair at all. Below is a before and after pic. I am sooooo super excited!!

17 months & growing....

Hi guys!

Not much going on, just wanted to post an update of my locs. I haven't been styling my hair all that much. I add a bobby pin or two erry now & then. Overall, I think my hair is progressing quite well. Aside from I'd say 5 or 6, my hair is LOCKED!! WOOHOOO! Take a gander...

My Baby's Braids...& maybe locs....

Ok, so June of last year, I installed braids on my then 2-yr-old's hair with the intention of STARTING LOCS. A few short weeks after I, yes, chickened out. The thought of re-installing 'em never left my mind. Soooooo, here we go again. Last week I put small braids in her head to, hopefully, start the locing process. My hesitation is the "in-between" stages one has to go thru before getting to the beautiful end result. For example, FRIZZ! I learned to embrace my frizz. I'm just not sure how my hubby & a few others will handle it. I think my baby would look absolutely beautiful with a healthy head full of locs. Honestly, I need to get over my issues & just do it. My hubby, surprisingly, has my back moreso this go round. He told me not to be concerned about what people say because what goes on up in our house is our business - his words exactly. Below you will find pics of the installation process as well as the results from rodding her hair last night. My goal is to be as creative as possible when creating "kid-friendly" hairstyles. What do you guys think?

I love my locs magazine!!

While stopping by a fellow blogger's page I discovered this magazine called
I Love My Locs
. Though I am already deeply in luv with locs, I truly believe I've submerged deeper. This magazine has over 100 pages of bios & pics of those who are at varying stages in their loc journey. You can download it
here
for immediate viewing and/or purchase it. I'm going to do both.

Thanks to new2locs for providing the information to this inspiring magazine.

Bro's-In-Law Locs

My Bro’s-In-Law locs were created earlier this year – silly me didn’t jot down the date. Anyhoo, he wore braids for many, many years so he had nice length to begin with. He wanted something new so I suggested locs. He is not feeling the shrinkage so much, but I told him he has to crawl before he can get to this...

On the plus side, his hair maintains exceptionally well. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve actually palmrolled. Not to mention, some of those times weren’t even necessary; He was having “frizzy” insecurity issues. The texture of his hair is to be coveted. His hair hasn’t unraveled NOT ONCE!! I can’t remember off hand what I use to palmroll his hair, but I do know that beeswax is one of the ingredients. EEEKK! I tried to warn him & tell him about the drawbacks of it…yada…yada…but he doesn’t care. He likes the way his hair smells afterwards. Check out his pics!
